Upgrade with the same method you installed with. Both methods keep your data. This page covers PowerShell; for the setup program see Install with the setup program.

With PowerShell, run the install command again. The installer replaces the program files and keeps your data.

Automatic backup

Before it replaces the program files, the installer zips your data folder (C:\ProgramData\Fungusware\Xackup) to:

C:\ProgramData\Fungusware\Xackup-backups\Xackup-data-before-<new version>-from-<old version>-<date time>.zip

The newest five backups are kept. Add -NoBackup to skip it. If the backup fails, the installer warns and carries on: it never changes the data folder itself.

Going back to an earlier version

  1. Stop the service:
Stop-Service XackupAPI
  1. Install the earlier version. See Install one particular version.
  2. Stop the service again if the installer started it, then restore the backup over the data folder:
Expand-Archive -Path "C:\ProgramData\Fungusware\Xackup-backups\<backup file>.zip" -DestinationPath "C:\ProgramData\Fungusware\Xackup" -Force
Start-Service XackupAPI

What is kept

  • Jobs, saved servers and locations, and the license. They live in C:\ProgramData\Fungusware\Xackup, which the installer never touches.
  • Your choice about other computers.

Switching from the setup program to PowerShell

If Xackup v2 was installed with the setup program, the PowerShell installer removes that install first and keeps your jobs and settings. You do not have to uninstall it yourself.

Upgrading offline

Download PowerShell installer package from the Downloads page, copy it to the computer, and run Install-XackupDesktop.ps1 from it. Add -SkipPrerequisites if the runtimes are already installed. See Installer options.
